Universal Apostolic Preferences
The Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) are the fruit of a process of discernment undertaken by the whole of the Society of Jesus that lasted almost two years. All Jesuits were invited to take part along with our mission partners. It concluded with a confirmation from Pope Francis in a special meeting with Fr General Arturo Sosa.
The Preferences give a horizon, a point of reference to the whole Society of Jesus. They capture our imaginations and awaken our desires. They unite us in our mission. The new Preferences are four areas vital for our world today. The Society of Jesus will pay special attention to them in the next ten years. The Jesuits in Britain and the Jesuit Curia in Rome invites you to learn more and take action with us! We want to make a Gospel difference.
Click on any of the UAPs below to find out more. The link takes you to the website of the General Curia, the Jesuit headquarters in Rome. For each UAP you'll find a statement entitled 'Reality - how things stand', about the reality of that topic in society today, a heading entitled 'God's Dream' giving scripture that teaches us something of God's desire, a section entitled 'Our Response', which outlines what the Society of Jesus hope to be able to do over the coming 10 years, and finally a section entitled 'Take Action', with ideas for action, for prayer and for networking with others.
If you want to know about the hopes and dreams of the Jesuits, and what anyone joining us should aspire to, here they are in a nutshell!
